- ΒΎ cup brown sugar
- Β½ tsp cinnamon
- Β½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- Β½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts, optional
- Pinch of salt

- Preheat: Heat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease a 9Γ13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the apples: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, vanilla, lemon juice, nutmeg, and salt.
- Make the topping: Combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter with your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture becomes crumbly. Stir in the nuts if using.
- Assemble: Spread the apples evenly in the baking dish and sprinkle the crisp topping generously over them.
- Bake: Bake for 40β50 minutes, until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown and crisp.
- Cool slightly: Let it rest for 10β15 minutes before serving.
