🥧 Old-Fashioned Custard Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
  • 4 large eggs
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla, salt, and melted butter until smooth.
  4. Pour the custard mixture into the prepared pie crust.
  5. Sprinkle the nutmeg evenly over the top.
  6. Bake for 45–55 minutes, until the edges are set and the center has a slight jiggle.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool completely before slicing.
  8. Refrigerate for a chilled, firmer custard or serve at room temperature.
