Ingredients
For the Bread
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ⅓ cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Cinnamon Swirl
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Optional Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a small bowl, mix together the ⅓ cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the egg, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
- Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the batter.
- Add the remaining batter, then sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar on top.
- Use a butter knife to gently swirl the cinnamon mixture through the batter.
- Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- If desired, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make the glaze and drizzle over the cooled bread.
