Ingredients:
For the Steaks:
- 1½ lbs ground beef
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup finely chopped onion
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika
For the Gravy:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
Method:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix gently until combined.
- Shape the mixture into 4–6 oval patties.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the patties for about 3–4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
- Add the butter to the same skillet. Add the sliced onions and mushrooms and cook for 5–7 minutes, until softened and golden.
- Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring. Add Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and black pepper.
- Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15–20 minutes, until the steaks are cooked through and the gravy has thickened.
- Serve hot over creamy mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, with plenty of mushroom-onion gravy. 🥩🍄🥔
