π Old-Fashioned Banana Pudding
Creamy, comforting, and loaded with layers of sweet bananas, vanilla wafers, and homemade vanilla pudding. A true old-fashioned American favorite! π
Ingredients:
π For the Pudding:
ΒΎ cup granulated sugar

cup all-purpose flour
ΒΌ tsp salt
3 cups whole milk
3 large egg yolks
2 tbsp unsalted butter
2 tsp vanilla extract
πͺ For the Layers:
1 box (11 oz) vanilla wafers
4β5 ripe but firm bananas, sliced
π₯ For the Topping:
1Β½ cups heavy whipping cream
3 tbsp powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions:
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt.
Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to gently bubble.
In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks. Slowly add about 1 cup of the hot pudding mixture to the yolks while whisking constantly.
Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan. Cook for another 2β3 minutes, stirring constantly, until thick and creamy.
Remove from the heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract. Let the pudding cool slightly.
In a serving dish, arrange a layer of vanilla wafers, followed by sliced bananas.
Spoon a layer of warm pudding over the bananas. Repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used, finishing with pudding.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, so the wafers become soft and flavorful.
Beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Spread or pipe the whipped cream over the pudding before serving.
