🍊 Old-Fashioned Orange Candy

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tbsp grated orange zest
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • Β½ cup light corn syrup
  • Β½ cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ΒΌ tsp salt
  • Powdered sugar, for coating

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease an 8Γ—8-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a heavy saucepan, combine orange juice, orange zest, sugar, corn syrup, water, lemon juice, and salt.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Bring to a boil and cook without stirring until the mixture reaches 250–255Β°F (121–124Β°C) on a candy thermometer.
  5. Carefully pour the hot mixture into the prepared pan and let it cool completely, about 2–3 hours.
  6. Once firm, remove from the pan and cut into small squares or strips.
  7. Toss the candies in powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
  8. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
