Ingredients
- 1½ lbs ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Onion Gravy
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, diced onion, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix gently and shape into 4–6 oval patties.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4–5 minutes per side, until browned. Remove and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add sliced onions and cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring. Add Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder.
- Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet. Cover and simmer over low heat for 10–15 minutes, until cooked through and the gravy has thickened.
- Season with salt and pepper and serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
