Ingredients
- 1 large head green cabbage
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- ½ lb (225 g) ground pork
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
For the Sauce:
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 can (14.5 oz / 410 g) diced tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Method
- Prepare the cabbage: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Carefully remove the cabbage leaves one at a time and blanch them for 2–3 minutes, until softened. Drain and let cool.
- Make the filling: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, cooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, paprika, and Italian seasoning. Mix until well combined.
- Make the sauce: In a bowl, mix tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Fill the cabbage: Place about 2–3 tablespoons of filling in the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold the sides inward and roll tightly.
- Arrange: Spread a little sauce in the bottom of a baking dish. Arrange the cabbage rolls seam-side down and pour the remaining sauce over the top.
- Bake: Cover tightly with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1½–2 hours, until the cabbage is tender and the filling is fully cooked.
- Serve: Let rest for 10 minutes, then spoon the rich tomato sauce over the cabbage rolls and serve warm. 🥬❤️
